Chapter 9. F-u-ndue!

My journey in Paris was fantastic in the end! They say don’t cross that bridge until we come to it. I say just enjoy every moment during your journey.

Time to say Goodbye to this romantic (but smelly and scary) city! Next stop, Switzerland!

I had planned a 2-day trip with Evelyn there. Switzerland is one of the wealthiest countries in Europe, so the public security is a pretty safe there. (It had been my routine to checkup for the security in the countries or cities that I wanted to visit.) Walking on the streets in Luzern was so cozy and pleasant. Luzern is not a hustle-and-bustle city, it is a slow-paced place, instead. I did not see people running for the metro because the next one comes in few minutes.

Evelyn and I took an easy hike to the city mountain, which was Linderhof Hill. From the mountains, we could see Church of St. Peter, with its beautiful baroque design, and see how the city is separated into two by Limmat River underneath.

After wandering in the city for hours, we took the train and back to our place. On the way back home, the picturesque scenery made me feel like living in the heaven. About 20 minutes, I arrived our destination stop.

Something funny and tiring happened. So, we booked this place on Airbnb. But the host couple was not at home on the day we arrived there. In other words, we had to find the keys ourselves based on the mysterious instructions we were given. First, we had been looking for the host’s place for half an hour. We asked so many locals, and none of them knew the place. Finally, we found the place after searching for the whole area nearby. It turned out to be on the third floor without any conspicuous sign.

But things did not end here. We could not find the key! “Are we going to break the windows?” According to the instructions, the key was covered in a pile of old newspaper. We just could not find it. Half hour passed. “I found a pile of newspaper! It was inside this basket!” I cried out loud excitingly. “It was like an RPG game!”, Evelyn said. We never knew that finding a place for a sleep was so exhausting. But it was worth it. The place we stayed was an idyllic countryside. It was so cozy and the view outside was so cute and beautiful.

Food in Switzerland was so expensive. We could not really afford every meal to eat out. We had most of our food at convenience stores(kiosk). But they said the trip in Switzerland is not completed without trying Swiss Fondue, which is a delectable cheese hot pot. As good gourmets, how could we miss fondue?

The next day, Evelyn and I googled the nearest fondue restaurants. It was at the corner of the street. Many tourists would just walk pass through it. However, it was one of the best secret restaurants. As soon as we opened the wooden, vintage door, the waitress welcomed us with her big shining smile and guided us to the window seat. We ordered two Fondue set, a classic Swiss cheese fondue (with wine in it) and a zesty tomato fondue. The combination of wine and cheese is one that I particularly cherish. People eat fondue with potatoes whipped with stringy cheese. I had no idea how good the combination of potatoes and cheese can be until I had my first bite of it. (If you are the cheesy lover, you must come and try Fondue.)

After the meal, Evelyn and I grabbed two pints of beers, savoring the lovely river view.

The last day, we stopped by a Starbucks. We pretended to be the costumers, sitting at a table with a Starbucks cup that was left by the previous customer. (hahaha) Then, we flew back to Frankfurt.
